Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters patrol the outskirts of the recently liberated Syrian town of Al-Qaryatayn.

One year ago acting at the behest of the Syrian government Russia launched an airborne campaign against the Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) forces threatening the Middle Eastern country. Russian airborne assets deployed to Syria, supported by warships operating in the Caspian Sea and in the Mediterranean, helped turn the tide of the conflict and played a pivotal role in a number of important military operations conducted against Daesh by the Syrian Arab Army which managed to regain much of the territory previosly lost to the terrorists.
