Despite the newest incident in Syrian airspace, Russia will not automatically destroy any aerial objects in the areas of its Aerospace Forces’ actions in Syria, the decisions will be made on an individual basis, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s Committee on Defense and Security Frants Klintsevich told to the press on Monday.
“The decisions will be made in each case individually, the targets will not be attacked automatically. But in case of aggressive acts from the United States, these actions will be strictly stopped by the Russian Aerospace Forces,” Klintsevich said.
Earlier today, Russian MoD announced that the Russia is halting all interactions with the US within the framework on the memorandum of incident prevention in Syrian skies, following the US-led coalition’s downing of a Syrian army’s jet near Raqqa.
Russian missile defense will intercept any aircraft in the area of operations of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria, the ministry said.
“In areas where Russian aviation is conducting combat missions in the Syrian skies, any flying ojects, including jets and unmanned aerial vehicles of the international coalition discovered west of the Euphrates River will be followed by Russian air and ground defenses as air targets,” the Russian Defense Ministry announced.
At the same time, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson said the US-led coalition will not specify details on re-positioning of its aircraft in Syria in the aftermath of incidents involving pro-Syrian government forces.
“For operational security reasons we do not specify the airspace Coalition aircraft will be operating in,” the spokesperson said.
On Sunday, a US jet shot down a Syrian Su-22 fighter-bomber near the city of Tabqa. The coalition said the Syrian aircraft attacked Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions, adding that the coalition downed the Syrian jet as part of “collective self-defense of Coalition partnered forces.”
Next days should reveal the real dimension of newest tensions between two global powers. Their moves could lead the world into the global conflict.
