Suspect for El Paso shooting identified

The suspect in the mass shooting at an El Paso shopping center in which multiple people were killed and dozen were wounded is 21-year-old Patrick Crusius of Allen, Texas, CNN reported.

Two federal law enforcement sources and one state government source allegedly confirmed the suspect’s identity. The federal sources said investigators are reviewing an online writing posted days before the shooting that may speak to a motive.

Authorities are also investigating a manifesto that includes remarks attacking immigrants and is sympathetic to the Christchurch attacker, according to the two officials. Authorities have not confirmed that the manifesto is from the same attacker but continue to investigate it.

Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick had earlier told Fox News that a 21-year-old man was in custody in the shooting, which unfolded in the area of Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso. KTSM, a local NBC affiliate, reported that at least 18 people were dead.

Area hospitals said they were treating 22 victims.
