Philadelphia police swarmed the area near a shooting in the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood where five officers have been shot. Officers took cover behind cars and blocked off surrounding streets as they were fired upon by the unidentified shooter.

“Multiple injuries to Officers. 5 PPD Officers Shot – at area hospitals with no life-threatening injuries. Shooting still active,” Sgt. Eric Gripp said Wednesday via Twitter.

A large police presence responded to a shooting incident in a residential area of the Nicetown section of the city. One male shooter was still inside a residence in what police described as an active situation. The suspect allegedly barricaded himself inside a building on 15th Street, the sources said.

Several rounds of gunfire continued for more than an hour, ABC Philadelphia station WPVI.reported. One woman said she heard over 100 gunshots and saw people running for their lives.

“I heard so many gunshots… I’m scared,” she told WPVI.
