Russian soldier has killed eight and wounded two soldiers at military base in Russia’s far East. The shooter could have opened fire due to a nervous breakdown in connection with his personal problems unrelated to his service, the Russian ministry defense said in their statement.
The shooting incident occurred at a military base in the Zabaykalsky Territory in Russia’s Far East, the Russian Defence Ministry added.
“On 25 October, at about 6:20 p.m. local time, when the guard changed, a serviceman on a repair and technical base in the Zabaykalsky Territory opened fire on his fellow soldiers using service firearms. As a result, eight servicemen were killed instantly while two others received wounds of varying severity,” it said.
Shortly after the incident, the soldier was detained on scene. The soldiers who were wounded in the shooting were taken to hospital, Ministry defense added. According to the Investigative Committee, the injured soldiers are currently in serious condition.
Ministry of Defence investigators headed by Deputy Defence Minister General Colonel Andrey Kartapolov are already on their way to the scene. More details to follow.
