The American soldier who died on December 23, 2019 in Kunduz province, Afghanistan, has been identified as Sgt. 1st Class Michael J. Goble, 33, of Washington Township, New Jersey. He was wounded by a roadside bomb on December 22 and died a day later from the wounds sustained in the explosion.
Goble was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, U.S. Army Special Forces at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., the Department of Defense said in a statement Monday. He was engaged in combat operations in Afghanistan’s Kunduz Province when he suffered fatal injuries. Goble was on his final tour of duty when he was killed and was set to come home in less than a month, according to NJ.com.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack amid ongoing peace talks with American officials.
