For the first time in history, a group of Russian paratroopers jumped from a height of 10 thousand meters in the Arctic. It was a first-time ever HALO jump over the Arctic. The extreme HALO jump gave the airborne troops an opportunity to test new breathing masks, navigation equipment, and other new special tools.
The exercise was held on Saturday, April 25, 2020. An exercise of this kind has never been attempted before.
The troops also tested a new generation parachuting system. The exercise is planned to be held annually in the Arctic so that soldiers are able to gain specific knowledge related to fulfilling tasks in this region, according to the Barents Observer.
The exercise was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of WW2 victory and the 90th anniversary of the Russian paratroopers.
