Portuguese Comandos in Central African Republic

Portuguese Comandos are currently deployed to the UN MINUSCA (Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic).

They are the QRF (quick reaction force) for the MINUSCA Commander and have been extensively employed in recent stabilization operations in the cities of Bambari, Alindao and Bangassou where they had to use lethal force against rebel groups. They have also performed LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols) in the border area, especially in the region of Mobaye where rebels groups have been very active.

The Comandos are an elite unit of the Portuguese Army that has a long tradition of fighting in Africa. They are one the most awarded units since the Portuguese Ultramarine Wars in that continent.
