About the Medal of Honor

The President of the United States typically awards the medal in the name of the U.S. Congress. Because the medal is presented “in the name of Congress,” it is often referred to erroneously as the “Congressional Medal of Honor.” However, the official name of the current award is “Medal of Honor.” The medal is presented for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.

  1. John Kennedy was awarded the congressional Medal of Honor for his efforts in securing the rescue of the crew of PT 109 in WWII.

  2. I’m afraid that turns out not to be the case.
Kennedy was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his actions concerning the survival and rescue of PT-109 crew.
It is the highest award the Navy gives for a non-combat action.
